Ozone Therapy
The use of Ozone Therapy as an integrative medicine treatment has remarkable detoxification and oxidative / reactive properties and can therefore stimulate the animal’s body to renew and regenerate itself.
In the presence of disease, the cell environment always suffers from lower levels of pH and less oxygen. Ozone Therapy is used to boost the amount of oxygen in the body.
Ozone (O3) is a triatomic molecule (consisting of three oxygen atoms) that acts as a powerful oxidant, because it is far more energetic than oxygen. When properly introduced into the body, via various methods and in repeated applications, it can inactivate viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa and cancer in diseased cells and regulate enzymatic and cellular processes.
Ozone Therapy was first used in medicine in the 1870s in Germany and has now become widely used, studied and tested. In hundreds of scientific and clinical studies of humans and animals around the world, it has been proven as clinically safe and very effective.
What can Ozone Therapy be used for?
In my daily practice I find that Ozone Therapy shows extremely positive results in the treatment of the following conditions:
Conditions | Benefits |
|
Anti-inflammatory Analgesic |
|
Chondroprotective (protecting joint cartilage protection) Anti-inflammatory Analgesic |
|
Immunomodulator (affecting the functioning of the immune system) |
|
Enzymes Modulator (affecting the functioning of the enzymatic system) Improving intracellular energetic processes |
|
Healing and stimulating Killing bacteria, fungi and viruses |
How is ozone administered?
Depending on the animal’s existing pathology, ozone can be administered by intramuscular, intravenous and intra-articular routes. The most common applications we are using are:
1. Major autohemotherapy (MAH)
In horses, approximately 500ml of blood are removed into a vacuum bottle where it gets enriched with medical grade ozone before being reinfused into the body by IV.
2. Rectal insufflation
Ozone is introduced via a catheter or a syringe directly into the rectum of the animal where it is immediately and completely absorbed through the walls of the colon.
3. External insufflation
The diseased part of the body is isolated by first surrounding it with a bag and then exposing it to ozone, thereby killing off any bacteria, viruses, fungi, or moulds infecting the open wound, and increasing the blood flow to the wound.
What are the benefits of Ozone Therapy?
Immune system modulation
Ozone has the capacity to regulate the immune system. If it is too weak it “wakes it up” and makes it function better, because a weakened immune system always makes the body vulnerable to disease. If it is too reactive, as in the case of allergies and other immune disorders, ozone helps to calm it down.
Improved cell oxygenation
In the short term, ozone increases the amount of oxygen that is transported by the red blood cells: in the long term it stimulates the production of new and ‘super gifted’ red blood cells.
Destruction of pathogenic micro-organisms
Ozone is effective by directly killing bacteria, viruses and fungi, and indirectly by boosting cell oxygenation, immunity, and enzymatic processes. It only targets diseased cells, leaving healthy ones untouched.
Powerful antioxidant effect
Ozone not only stimulates the production of endogenous antioxidants, like glutathione, it also modulates the antioxidant enzyme system.
